 BLUE STOCKINGS VISIT OREGON

 Tree helps team

The field at the Chana School Museum in Oregon, IL, has some very interesting peculiarities. Besides the sloping infield and a mulch pile in the outfield, there are three large trees in right field, but it was the big tree in left field that provided some excitement in the first inning. With two men on base and an ace already in, Oregon's 'The Rip' hit a ball that became lodged in its branches. After several minutes the Blue Stockings fielders were able to knock the ball loose and 'Shoeless' Joe File caught it before it hit the ground. Since the tree is in play, it was ruled a fly out, and the runners (who were already in) had to return to their bases.

The rest of the game was anticlimactic. There was a lot of good defensive play by both teams, but the Ganymedes were able to score four more aces to Somonauk's one, for a final score of 5-1.
